Artist statement:

This was my 2023 Artprize competition entry painting, in Grand Rapids. It is a portrait of the famous reining horse 'Spooky Whiz'. I took the palette knife to a lot of this one, I really enjoyed 'loosening' up the colors and strokes. I incorporated some 'scratch' marks as well in the saddle. Like this horse, learning to stretch the limits to see what you can do is a great skill!
